As part of a program to go Green, northwest suburban school districts in the Buffalo Grove and Long Grove area are attempting to go paperless and rely solely on email for communication to parents. At the forefront of this initiative is School District 96, which serves portions of Buffalo Grove and Long Grove. According to Betsy Fresen, public information coordinator, they are using broadband rather than backpacks to send school newsletters.
District 96 has estimated that this initiative has saved the school between $20,000 and $22000,. Additionally, going paperless will save the environment. That to me is Priceless! Less important reasons include- my kitchen won't get cluttered with papers, and my kids don't have to show me the monthly newsletter on Sunday night at 10:00 pm , just when I'm ready to go to bed.
This paperless initiative is a win win for everyone!
What can you do to go Green?
A friend of mine, sent me this link and I think this is a great way to start going Green . This is a link to a company where you can enter catalogs that you get that you do not want to recieve anymore and it removes you from their mailing list. http://www.catalogchoice.org/#optouts
That's all for now.... If you have any other Green ideas, please let me know and I will include them in my future blogs. Remember to go Green

Thanks for the link of salvation for all those catalogs! And good, green move on the school's part to lessen the paperload. Maybe they can also get a list of twitter users? As much as I resisted twitter for all sorts of reasons, I'm learning fast now about this amazing TOOL!
Mara, thanks for visiting... if everyone used the link of salvation- there would be alot more trees.
Judy, I really like the idea of the dump the paper catalog web site. We get so much junk mail as it is already. Thanks.
