Dear Diary, My passion (besides real estate) is making people smile!

My real passion is.....

Trying to make people smile!  Since I ‘m not a good joke teller, actually I'm a horrible joke teller, I try to make people smile in other ways.

In today's environment, where all you hear is negativism from the time you turn on the news when you first wake up, to the time you fall asleep at night, it's easy to go a day without a real smile.  It's not that I'm oblivious to the news, or what's going on in the world, but since I can't change anything globally, I just love to make a little difference in the world- and give my friend, family member , client, or stranger a reason to smile.

The other day one of my past clients emailed me to see if I could help his daughter find an unpaid internship in real estate.  When I called him back today, he didn't sound so good, actually he sounded horrible.  I asked what is wrong, and he told me that he had the awful flu that was going around the town.  Since I knew his wife was traveling to Germany for two weeks, I told him, I was going to bring him some good old fashion chicken soup.  I could hear from his voice that I made his day.  Hopefully I made him smile.

Most of you know that I'm a uterine cancer survivor - it's almost 10 years this fall and I've never felt better!   I'm very involved in the Imerman Angels , a group that provides  one-on-one relationships to a cancer fighter and a chance for them to ask personal questions and get support from the survivor who is uniquely familiar with their experience.  Last week Jonny Imerman the founder of the organization called me to reach out to Paul Plotkin ,whose sister Suzie was just recently diagnosed with cancer.    I talked to him at great length assuring him that he and his sister will get through these tough times. I knew by me talking to him, I put a smile on his face.  Paul is a very caring brother and set up a facebook support page, good thoughts for Suzie and would appreciate if  everyone on facebook joined his group and give Susie their support.

One of my favorite things to do to put a smile on people's face is to fix them up.  Yes I am a matchmaker.  A recent client asked me if I knew any cute women between the ages of 40-50 that I could fix him up with.    Lucky for this guy was that I fixed him up and he is getting married this June. After I fixed him up and he fell in love, he changed his mind about buying a home and moved in with his new girlfriend.  Although I didn't get the immediate sale, I was so happy he found his soul mate.  I'm sure I put a lot of smiles on both my client's and his fiancé's face.

The point of explaining my passion is not to brag about what I do for other people, but how good it makes me feel inside to reach out and make you smile.

P.S   I'm smiling if you are smiling!

A very lovely post...you clearly put others first, and this makes you a wonderful person, quite apart from having the right attitude to be a good real estate agent!    Thanks for sharing.

Judy - In these difficult and trying times its refreshing to read your post.

If we could all make one person smile each day it would certainly help lighten the mood.

Judy - Does UPS deliver Chicken Soup?  I've had a cold for about 2 weeks as well and that may be just what I need :)  Very nice post and I feel better knowing there are still many people like you who not only care about others, but also take actions to improve the lives of others.

Li Read, Today was a great day for me because I closed on a beautiful home with a newly married couple.  They really smiled when they finally closed!  That made my week!

Stewart,  I agree- more people have to smile and not take life so seriously.   Life is way to short!

I didn't think you were bragging at all, I could feel your smile as you typed the words and your passion really did shine through.

Erik, Yes, UPS delivers chicken soup and if you are in need of sending chicken soup to a sick friend, check out... http://www.grandmaschickensoup.com/.  The chicken soup is delicious!  I received it as a gift, and loved it.  When I sent it as a gift one time, I couldn't believe it was so expensive...

Hey Judy.... Just stopped by to smile at you but while reading I did think of an assignment for you.  Think Jeff Belonger's looking to settle down.... Can you work a little magic to make a match?

First off, I love the title of your BLOG! I also thoroughly enjoyed reading this excellent and openly honest post. I am with you all the way! Most of the time I have a grin on my face (but not so much that people walk on the other side of the street think I am crazed!) This contest has enabled me to meet so many new people! Thanks!
