Cub Fan from the Chicago Northwest Suburbs is hopeful one more year!

Today is my dad's 80th birthday, so I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my dear young father. He loves to write poems, and I thought that you might appreciate a poem he recently wrote.

Hopefully the Cubs will give my dad the best birthday present an 80 year old man can ask for... Please?????

The Great Cub Team

by Sheldon Cooper

An Oxymoron

Being a cub fan is not very smart,

It can give you an ulcer and injure your heart,

It can give you depression, ruin your life,

You get mad at the neighbors and yell at your wife,

From the Wrigley Building to the Tribune Tower

Some teams had pitching, some had power,

The owners had money, but thought it a sin,

To spend enough for their team to win.

But you go to the ballpark all set to cheer

40 thousand fans, each with a beer,

Three drinks later, it's the seventh inning,

You don't even know, which team is winning.

Billy goats curse, the fan catching the ball,

An umpire making a terrible call

A throwing error or a pitchers balk,

We can also lose with a bases filled walk.

We haven't won it all since nineteen 0 eight,

That's too many years for a guy to wait,

But every season what words do we hear,

The faithful yelling "wait till next year"

Happy Birthday Dad!!!

I love you!

We always have "next year."  It's my hope that this year is our next year.  My buddies are sox fans.  I'm tolerant of them, but I'm all Cubbie.

Happy Birthday Mr. Cooper.

And once again..."THIS IS next year!"

Although I already miss DeRosa.

My soon to be eight year old predicts the Cubs in the World Series (again) :)

There is no greater demonstration of devotion in all of sports as that of the Cubs fan. I know... I've witnessed it up close. It defies science, logic and the wisdom of the mystics. This being said- wouldn't it be nice if we all could know what it is like to feel such love and devotion? Happy (albeit late) birthday to your dad.
